Snapmaker U1 Top Cover Intelligent Temperature Control and Air Filtration Accessory

Material-Adaptive Thermal Management

The Snapmaker U1 Top Cover expands the U1's material compatibility, allowing it to work with both high-temperature and heat-sensitive filaments.

Through Snapmaker Orca, every filament is automatically paired with the appropriate circulation mode: Internal Circulation for heat retention, and External Circulation for heat dissipation.

This helps reduce the need for manual adjustments, making it easier to regulate the temperature of the printing chamber.

Internal Circulation Mode

Used for heat retention, maintaining a warmer printing chamber environment.

External Circulation Mode

Used for heat dissipation, exhausting heat from the chamber to assist with heat-sensitive filament printing.

Multi-material printing notice:

High-temperature filaments (e.g., ABS, ASA, PC, PA) cannot be printed simultaneously with heat-sensitive filaments (e.g., PLA, TPU, PVA).

PETG can be printed with PLA or TPU; in this case, the system will enable External Circulation Mode to dissipate heat from the chamber.

Passive Heat Retention up to 50°C

After installing the Snapmaker U1 Top Cover, the internal chamber temperature of the U1 can reach up to 50°C.

This is achieved through the heat radiated from the heated bed and a sealed design paired with internal circulation, allowing warm air to be contained within the printing chamber.

A warmer and more stable printing environment slows down rapid cooling and thermal contraction, helping to reduce warping and providing reliable layer adhesion for high-temperature filaments like ABS, ASA, PA, and PC.

Additionally, higher chamber temperatures help reduce warping during PETG printing, further improving print quality.

Test conditions: Data from Snapmaker Labs. With an ambient temperature of 25°C, heated bed temperature of 100°C, and using Internal Circulation mode, the chamber temperature reached 50°C within 30 minutes.

Actual results may vary based on environmental factors and individual equipment differences.

High-Efficiency Heat Exhaust Cooling

When printing with heat-sensitive filaments like PLA, TPU, or PVA, you can enable External Circulation Mode to actively exhaust heat from the printing chamber.

The exhaust fan draws ambient air in from the bottom and expels hot air from the chamber through vents, creating a cooler printing environment.

This helps prints cool down more effectively, resulting in clearer, sharper details.

Test notes: Comparison images are from Snapmaker Labs. Tests were conducted at an ambient temperature of 25°C with the heated bed set to 55°C, comparing printing results with the exhaust fan on and off.

Actual printing results may vary due to environmental conditions, slicer settings, material status, hardware variations, and other factors.

Three-Stage Air Filtration System

The Snapmaker U1 Top Cover is equipped with a three-stage air filtration system, designed specifically for Internal Circulation Mode.

When printing engineering filaments like ABS, ASA, PC, or PA, the system helps reduce odors, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), and fine particles, providing a cleaner printing experience.

G3 Pre-Filter

The first-stage filter component of the three-stage air filtration system.

Activated Carbon Filter

The activated carbon filtering component of the air filtration system.

H12 HEPA Filter

High-efficiency air filtration component, designed to assist in filtering fine particles.

Filtration Mode Reminder: The three-stage air filtration system is only used in Internal Circulation Mode.

External Circulation Mode is primarily for heat dissipation, and the air does not pass through the filtration system. For better air quality, it is recommended to operate the printer in a well-ventilated area when using External Circulation Mode.

Below 50 dB in Internal Circulation Mode

The Snapmaker U1 Top Cover features a sealed design intended to reduce airborne noise, helping to absorb and dampen the sounds produced during printer operation.

In Internal Circulation mode, the U1's average noise level is below 50 decibels (dB), helping to create a quieter work environment for home, studio, or office settings.

Test conditions: Data from Snapmaker Labs. Measured 1 meter away from the printer while the Top Cover is installed, in Internal Circulation mode, with the internal fan set to 60%, the average noise level is below 50 dB.

Actual performance may vary based on environmental conditions and test methods.

Quick Access Without Removing the Top Cover

The Snapmaker U1 Top Cover is equipped with a detachable magnetic front door.

It can be opened or removed in seconds, facilitating daily maintenance without interfering with the installation of other components.

Important Tips for Using the Snapmaker U1 Top Cover

  1. Firmware Version: For a more stable and smooth user experience, please update your firmware to V1.5.2 Beta or higher.
  2. Air Purification After Printing: The top cover filtration system automatically shuts down 10 minutes after a print finishes. When printing with highly volatile materials like ABS, ASA, PC, or PA, it is strongly recommended to wait 10 minutes for air purification to complete before opening the top cover.
  3. External Circulation Exhaust: The three-stage air filtration system is only for use in Internal Circulation mode. External Circulation Mode is for heat dissipation only; the air does not pass through the filtration system. When printing heat-sensitive filaments like PLA, TPU, or PVA, if you do not want the air from the chamber to be exhausted into the room, you can connect an external exhaust hose to vent the air outside or to an air purifier. The top cover has a reserved adapter interface for an exhaust hose near the exhaust fan.
  4. Filter Configuration: The Snapmaker U1 Top Cover comes with pre-installed filters.
