600 × 300 mm Workspace
Provides a practical area for sheet processing; compatible with an optional conveyor and riser base for handling long-format materials.
Up to 1,000 mm/s
Equipped with motion control and laser power compensation to boost efficiency while maintaining engraving detail.
Auto Laser Alignment
Uses a dedicated sensor to detect and correct the laser path, simplifying the traditional manual mirror adjustment process.
55W CO₂ Laser, Expanding Creative Possibilities
From Wood and Clear Acrylic to Leather and Fabric
The R1 can cut and engrave wood, acrylic (including clear acrylic), leather, fabric, and paper, and can also engrave glass and coated metal surfaces.
Different materials can be used for lighting, ornaments, fashion accessories, and custom works, each showcasing unique textures and finishes.
Applicable materials for cutting and engraving differ: glass and coated metals are for engraving applications and should not be considered cuttable materials; bare metal does not support direct engraving.
Single-Pass Thick Material Cutting, Reducing Repetitive Processing
With optional medium or long-focus lenses, the factory demonstrates single-pass cutting of up to 18 mm black walnut plywood and 20 mm acrylic. Different focal lengths can be selected based on material thickness and processing needs.
Factory specifications also note a maximum cutting capacity of 15 mm black walnut plywood / 20 mm acrylic for the short-focus lens. Wood thicknesses in this text refer to plywood; actual results depend on material quality, lens choice, and processing parameters.

From Desktop Projects to Furniture Dimensions
600 × 300 mm Standard Workspace
The R1 standalone unit offers a 600 × 300 mm processing area, ideal for sheet cutting, decorative engraving, and batch nesting.
Optional Auto Conveyor for Materials up to 3 Meters Long
Combined with the auto conveyor and riser base, the workspace can be extended to 600 × 3,000 mm, allowing long boards to pass through the machine for applications such as floor lamps, tabletops, shelving, and furniture components.
Once the riser base or automatic feeding accessories are installed, the machine is no longer fully enclosed, and the laser classification changes from Class 1 to Class 4; protective eyewear suitable for CO₂ lasers must be worn, and operation must follow factory safety protocols.
Auto Laser Alignment, Streamlining Prep Work
Auto Laser Alignment
CO₂ laser beams must be directed through mirrors to the processing point. The R1 uses a Laser Alignment Sensor mounted on the toolhead to measure the beam, detect offsets, and automatically adjust, reducing the need for manual test firing and mirror alignment.
According to factory specifications, the alignment process completes in approximately 1 minute, making daily maintenance easier.

TriSense System: Positioning, Ranging, and Motion Tracking
Synergy of Dual Cameras, Dual Lasers, and Dual Encoders
TriSense integrates workspace imagery, material surface height, and toolhead positioning data to assist in pre-processing alignment and auto-focus. The factory lists positioning accuracy as less than 0.2 mm.
BirdsEye Camera
Captures the entire workspace to help view the overall placement of materials and designs.
Toolhead Camera
Provides a close-up view of the processing area, supporting small object positioning and contour recognition.
Pinpoint & Ranging Lasers
Pinpoint laser marks the position; Distance Measurement laser gauges surface height to set the focal point.
XY-Axis Encoders
Real-time tracking of toolhead position, providing feedback on motion during processing.
Precise Alignment for Various Surfaces
Whether a workpiece is tilted, curved, or very small, the R1 uses TriSense to read location and surface data, ensuring the design is accurately applied to the target area.
Curved Surface Height Sensing
Measures surface fluctuations and adjusts focus, helping maintain crisp engraving on curved surfaces. Available shapes and required fixtures depend on actual configuration.
Transparent Material Positioning
Measures surfaces of glass and clear acrylic, helping place designs in specific areas; glass is for engraving, not cutting.
Fine Positioning for Small Objects
Uses the toolhead camera to view small objects, making it easier to align fine details and text.
Cutting Along Printed Contours
Recognizes image boundaries, supporting cutting for printed graphics, stickers, and hand-drawn outlines.
Bambu Motion Control: Balancing Speed and Detail
Vibration Compensation, Maintaining Sharp Lines
Mechanical vibrations can affect line quality when the toolhead changes direction rapidly. The R1 uses Vibration Compensation technology to suppress oscillations after turns, improving engraving edges and fine details.
Up to 1,000 mm/s with Dynamic Power Adjustment
The R1 reaches a top processing speed of 1,000 mm/s and acceleration of 20,000 mm/s². Speed-Synced Laser Power adjusts output based on toolhead movement, ensuring consistent engraving depth and color tone.
Maximum speed does not mean all materials can be cut at the same speed; actual settings must be calibrated based on material, thickness, pattern, and quality requirements.
Airflow Management and Multi-Layered Safety
Crossflow Exhaust
Draws fresh air from one side and exhausts smoke from the other, creating constant airflow through the chamber.
Optional E1 Pro Air Purifier
The E1 Pro connects to the R1 exhaust port, using multi-layer filters and activated carbon to capture smoke, fine particles, and odors. Sold separately.
Lid Detection, Flame Monitoring, and Emergency Stop
The laser stops immediately when the lid is opened and remains disabled while it is open. Built-in sensors monitor for signs of flame, and an emergency stop button cuts power instantly.
Auto fire extinguishing functionality requires the optional Auto Fire Extinguishing System.
The R1 is a Class 1 laser device in its standard, fully enclosed configuration. Installing a riser base or auto-feeding accessories changes it to Class 4; take appropriate protective measures. Exhaust management and on-site monitoring should be maintained according to factory standards; safety sensors do not replace the need for operational supervision.
Bambu Suite Ecosystem and Expandable Accessories
Bambu Suite Software
The R1 uses Bambu Suite, supports Windows and macOS, and integrates with Bambu accounts and the MakerWorld creator ecosystem.
Auto-Focus and Material Recognition
Supports auto-focus and auto-material identification; the latter only applies to official Bambu Lab materials and may not support all third-party materials.
Tailor to Needs: Accessories Sold Separately
The riser base provides space for tall workpieces and is required for the conveyor and rotary attachment. Medium/long-focus lenses are available for thick material cutting.
Riser base, conveyor, rotary attachment, lenses, vision encoder, E1 Pro, and fire extinguishing system are all optional; please confirm package contents at the time of purchase.
Bambu Lab R1 FAQ
Is the R1 a 3D printer?
No. The R1 is a standalone CO₂ laser engraving/cutting device that processes surfaces; it does not use filament to build parts like a 3D printer.
Can the R1 cut clear acrylic and glass?
Clear acrylic can be cut and engraved. Glass is categorized as an engraving-only material and is not for cutting. Always select processing settings based on material type, thickness, and factory parameters.
What is needed for 3-meter-long materials?
You need the optional Conveyor and Riser Base, plus sufficient clearance for material movement. This configuration changes the safety class to Class 4; follow standard safety protocols.
What is the difference between 55W and 780W?
55W is the laser output power; 780W is the maximum input power of the unit. These are different specifications.
Does auto-recognition apply to all materials?
No. Auto-material recognition only applies to official Bambu Lab materials; processing settings for third-party materials must be set manually.
